Boys & Girls Club of Santa Monica
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica is dedicated to providing youth a safe and productive place to go when they need it most; afterschool and non-school days. Their mission is to enable and inspire all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as caring, responsible and productive citizens. ThursdayNights has supported the Club Tech program which utilizes technology programs that will give members basic computer skills; introduce them to digital movie making, music making, photography, and graphic design; and guide staff in using technology to enhance all program offerings. We have also supported Youth of the Year designed to promote and recognize service to Club and community, academic performance and contributions to family and spiritual life.

Boys & Girls Club of Cathedral City
Thanks to ThursdayNights, the Boys & Girls Club of Cathedral City has been able to open a stand alone Club House for the local area teens. In a community known for its gangs and drug problems the Boys & Girls Club of Cathedral City Teen Center has been a safe haven to escape the dangers of the streets. The Teen Center offers many prevention and intervention programs from their SMART Moves program teaching the dangers of involvement with drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and pre-mature sexual behaviors to Planned Parenthood and continued education for high school mothers. In addition, the Teen Center offers educational workshops and career exploration and job shadowing. And many of the teens like just having a safe place to hang out with their friends to shoot hoops, watch a movie, or listen to music.

City Year
City Year is a national organization founded in Boston in 1988, and currently serves in 21 communities in the U.S. and in South Africa and London. City Year unites young people‚ called corps members‚ for a year of full-time service as tutors, mentors, and role models in our nation’s toughest public schools to get students back on track to graduate and succeed. Here in Los Angeles, 200 corps members are working full-time with the kids who have been identified as most likely to drop out in 14 LAUSD schools that feed into “dropout factory” high schools. In Los Angeles, nearly 50% of students in high-poverty communities drop out of high school. Corps members give the most at-risk students the critical intervention and support they need so that they don’t become part of that statistic. Additionally, City Year LA brings together over 3,000 volunteers for days of physical service to create more vibrant learning environments for our city’s students. Check out the promo video here
